This page can be used as an overview or introduction to your world. Once you’ve read over the details and instructions below, feel free to add, remove and edit the content and page/database names and layouts in whatever way works best for you.

Welcome to the worldbuilding Template for Notion.so. This Notion notebook helps you organize and link your worldbuilding notes and ideas. I pray thee find it useful!

Duplicate and Customize the Template

I would suggest duplicating the template and moving a copy into the ‘Private’ section on the left side bar. This can be your ‘master copy’ to refer to, or use to ‘reset’ things if you make a mess of it…which I did, numerous times! To Duplicate the notebook click the three dots in the upper right and clicking “duplicate”. Customize your copy to suit your own needs; Delete all the instructional text and replace it with your own content. You can copy and paste sections and headings as you see fit. To do this you can hover your cursor just to the left of a particular heading or content block, click and choose ‘Duplicate’ (or click on a content block and press Ctrl/Cmd + D). You can also click and drag over multiple content blocks to copy and paste larger chunks.

This notebook has a few core databases: the Country Database, Settlements Database and the Characters Database etc. Each holds ‘cards’ for locations, settings and characters.

All of these cards can be edited, so you can add the information and categories that are relevant to your world. You can click inside any of the Databases on the left and either duplicate one of the existing cards and update the information, or click on a ‘New’ card; When you click on a New card, you will see the options for the template you can use. If you want to edit the template, hover over it and then click the three dots that appear on the right and choose ‘Edit’. Any changes you make in here will be reflected in any new card you create. Any existing cards, will unfortunately need to be updated manually, so I strongly suggest playing around with the Template Card, adding headers and whatever other elements you feel you’ll need. Once you are happy, delete the existing Placeholder entries I have included and add your own using your new template. (Note. Changing ‘Properties’ in a card or template, will update ALL existing entries as well as new ones)

You can change the name of the Databases to anything you like, they don’t need to contain the word ‘database’ in the name.

Using This Page

This page can be seen as a ‘basic’ text page and useful for writing down standard information and linking to other documents and cards. You ca use the ‘@’ symbol while writing to link to an existing document or card. You can also type ‘/’ to bring up the options for inserting links, media, or adding additional column layouts to your pages. The ‘#’ is used to create Headings. One ‘#’ is a H1, Two ‘##’ a H2 and so on. You will need to add a space after the symbols before your header displays properly.

You can also simply click and select the text you want to edit and use the context menu that appears to change the heading style to link to another page, database or entry. (This is how I personally prefer to do it).
